RUMFORD — The Rumford Historical Society will host a program on Rumford Community Hospital at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Rumford Falls Auditorium.

It’s the first meeting since December, President Jane Peterson said Wednesday.

“We were going to come back in March, but the winter was so bad this year that we had to cancel our March meeting,” she said.

Melinda Worthley, a licensed social worker with Rumford Hospital, will discuss the history of Rumford Community Hospital and how Obamacare will impact the hospital.

“The hospital has been around for quite a long time, and as far as I remember, I don’t think we’ve ever discussed the history of the hospital at one of our meetings,” Peterson said.

The annual society meeting is set for 7 p.m. May 21 in the Rumford Falls Auditorium. Stan Howe, associate director of the Bethel Historical Society and chairman of the Bethel Board of Selectmen, will discuss the past role of the Grange in Rumford and how it impacted the agricultural community of the area.

Peterson said the society’s annual yard sale is planned for June 7, with a rain date of June 14.
