FARMINGTON — Alyssa White of Farmington, a senior at Mt. Blue High School, was selected to receive the 2014 Principal’s Award, according to Principal Monique Poulin. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Alyssa is deserving of the award due to her dedication to her studies and her involvement in several extracurricular offerings. Alyssa has challenged herself with honors and Advanced Placement courses and has participated in a variety of activities beyond academics. She has been especially involved in leadership positions at Mt. Blue High School, serving as captain of her tennis team, president of the National Honor Society and vice-president of the Student Council and the chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America.

She has also served as a student representative for two years on the school’s Leadership Team. In addition, Alyssa was recognized as a Student of the Month and served in a leadership position at Girls’ State.

White, Poulin and other award winners and their principals attended an Honors Luncheon in Bangor on April 5.

The luncheon recognized students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler, who were former Maine principals and executive directors of the association. This year an additional five $1,000 scholarships were presented through the efforts of the MPA Scholarship Golf Tournament and support from Berlin City Auto.

Alyssa was chosen as the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship at the luncheon.
