1928 – 2014
GRAY — Mariette Cecile Ouellette, 86, of Gray, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 21, with her family by her side.
She was born on Jan. 28, 1928, the daughter of the late Edward and Clara (Caron) Dallaire. She lived in the Lewiston-Auburn area her whole life, graduating from St. Dominic High School. On Sept. 4, 1948, she married the love of her life, Roger H. Ouellette, at St. Peter’s Church in Lewiston; Roger passed away in October 2005.
Mariette was a loving homemaker to her husband and four children. Most recently, she was a member of St. Gregory’s Church in Gray. In her earlier years, she was a member of Holy Cross Parish and “Les Dames de St. Anne.”
She was a gifted artist who loved painting in oils; she also enjoyed doing needlepoint. Mariette was recognized by her family and friends as a gourmet cook. She loved to entertain and took pride in being a wonderful hostess who always dressed impeccably. She never spoke poorly of anyone and most of all, she loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and spending time with all of her loved ones.
Mariette is survived by two children, Marc Ouellette of Gray and Sonia Turgeon and husband, Mark, of Gray; five grandchildren, David Belisle, Katie Belisle, Michelle Ouellette Battaglia, Christine Mutchler and Adrien Ouellette; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Battaglia, Gabriel Battaglia, Lauren Mutchler and Aiclyn Ouellette; sister-in-law, Pauline Turgeon; son-in-law, John Belisle; and many friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Roger Ouellette; a daughter, Diane Pauline Belisle; a son, Claude Marcel Ouellette; a grandson, Anthony Belisle; and her brother, the Rev. Henry Dallaire.
The family would like to thank Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for the loving care they gave Mariette over the past several decades, especially Nancy Palmore and her colleagues.
