After 36 years in the grocery business and at the same place of business, Arthur W. Penley, has sold out his grocery trade at 40 Main street, Auburn to Orvil Sylvester and Wilbur Thurlow, both of Auburn. Under the firm name of Sylvester & Thurlow the business will be resumed in a few days. Mr. Penley says he is due for a long vacation. Thirteen years ago he closed up his store for the summer in order to take a rest and was planning to do so this summer. He then had no intention of selling out. Mr. Penley takes pride in recalling that a large number of Auburn grocery merchants learned their trade in his store. When he built on North Main street, 36 years ago nearly all the stores were on that street.

(Photo Caption) A whopper of a moth — one of the largest in the country — was captured Tuesday afternoon by a Lewiston High School junior near Central Avenue and Ash Street. David R. Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Williams of 42 Walnut St., Lewiston, spotted the moth near the base of a post and decided to add the big specimen to his insect collection. The moth was identified as a Cecropia moth — one of the largest found in the Eastern United States — and it is known to grow a wingspan of five to six inches. The size of the moth pictured here against Williams’ hand indicates that it easily qualifies as one of the country’s largest with a wing-span of close to six inches.
