GREENE — Mary Ukelady Hargreaves plays ukulele and guitar. Her original upbeat songs are about the country, family life, friendship, love and laughter. Her goal is to instill strong family values in a fun way.

The singer-songwriter, who has entertained in Central Maine and Oxford Hills since 2002, will perform at 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at the Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Memorial Foundation.

In 2001, Hargreaves attended a birthday celebration in the Virgin Islands and brought along a soprano ukulele. There, she shared the stage with folk legends Fritz Richmond of the Jim Kweskin Jug Band and Tom Rush. She sang the classic tune “Ukulele Lady” in the tropics and has been known as Mary Ukelady ever since.

Hargreaves has released original recordings, including her debut album, “Love Is Strong,” and “Little Pony Express,” a collection of songs for the entire family.

Admission to the concert is free. Sawyer Memorial is at 371 Sawyer Road.
