Still openings for pre-kindergarten
LEWISTON — There are still openings for Lewiston School Department’s pre-kindergarten. Registration will take place at the Superintendent’s Office, 36 Oak St.
Parents may register their child any business day between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and on Thursdays, June 5 and 12, until 5p.m.
Required documentation include an official birth certificate (child must be born between Oct. 16, 2009 and Oct. 15, 2010). If the child was not born in the USA, parents will need to bring an I-94 or green card.
Other documents include immunization records and proof of residency, including driver’s license with school appropriate address, lease or rent agreement, utility bills or mortgage agreement.
It is not necessary to bring the child to registration.
State Alzheimer’s plan to be unveiled
LEWISTON — The Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, will host an Androscoggin County Alzheimer’s Advocacy event from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn Campus, Androscoggin Room, 51 Westminster St.
The event is an opportunity where Alzheimer’s advocates can address and hear from Androscoggin County state representatives and state senators about Alzheimer’s policy priorities to be addressed in Maine.
More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, including as many as 37,000 in Maine. Advocates and stakeholders have come together to release the first-ever state plan for Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias in Maine. They will now ask members of the legislature to take action to help end the disease and support the community.

Library to host NAMI Maine night
LEWISTON — NAMI Maine (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) will host a free community education night Monday, June 9, at the Lewiston Public Library.
An open house will be held between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. to display information about NAMI Maine and the programs it offers. Refreshments will be served.
NAMI Maine staff will be present to speak about individual programs and how they can be of service and a resource to individuals, businesses, agencies and everyone in Lewiston/Auburn and surrounding communities.
NAMI Maine is a grassroots, membership-based nonprofit organization that is dedicated to building better lives for all Maine people and communities impacted by mental health since 1984.
NAMI Maine advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and is steadfast in its commitment to raising awareness and building a community of hope for all of those in need.
4-H camp to hold Youth Field Day
BRYANT POND — The University of Maine 4-H Camp and Learning Center will hold its ninth annual Youth Field Day on Saturday, June 7.
A day full of activities will be free for the whole family. Lunch will be served between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. for a nominal fee. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Activities will include archery, gun ranges, trout pond, fishing, geology, nature arts, primitive skills, canoeing and kayaking, garden activities and games. The Maine Warden Service will have a K9 unit on hand and Larry Barnes Falconry will be present.
Trout Unlimited will offer fly casting and tying, and there will be wildlife lessons with an Inland Fish and Wildlife biologist. Other camp programs will also be represented.

RSU 16 plans silent auction June 11
MECHANIC FALLS — RSU 16, comprised of Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland, will hold a silent auction from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Elm Street School, 129 Elm St.
The public sale will be of used tools and equipment from the technology education course at Elm Street School.
