MECHANIC FALLS — Wilbur R. Quittmeyer, 99, of Saunders Road in Mechanic Falls, died peacefully on Saturday, July 5, at his daughter’s home.
He was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Dec. 24,1914, the son of George and Effie Etta Quittmeyer. He received a bachelor’s degree from Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Mass., and a master’s degree in education from Boston University.
Wilbur taught both in the United States and in Africa as a missionary. He retired in Strafford, N.H. He was a lifetime Seventh-day Adventist.
He was married to Marion C. Milliken and they raised seven children.
He is survived by his sons and their wives, George and JoAnne Quittmeyer of Brunswick, David and Judy Quittmeyer of Garrett, Ind., and Charles and Catherine Quittmeyer of Modesto, Calif.; two daughters and their husbands, Janet and Peter Adams of Mechanic Falls and Catherine and Joe Choiniere of St. Albans, Vt.; one son-in-law, Warren Halstead, of Methuen, Mass.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marion; and two daughters, Carolyn (age 7) and Beverly Halstead.
