PERU — This weekend is the annual celebration of Christmas in July at Worthley Pond which will be visible starting July 25-27. The area around the pond will be ablaze with lights, displays and Christmas music will be heard in the air.
On the water, people will be circling the pond in their well lit and decorated boats. The festivities are well attended and can be seen by the public from many vantage points around the East Shore Road, Greenwoods Road, the BUS, the beach area, Honey Run Campground and hills above the pond.
The Worthley Pond Store (featuring new merchandise) at the Honey Run Campground to be open Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Stop at the Spring on the Greenwoods Road to read the publications in the Bulletin Board while enjoying a cool sip of water. Drive around the pond and observe many large parties as people host families and friends as part of this Christmas in July celebration.
Look carefully and we are sure that one will also be able to see Santa on his pond kayak sleigh, Jet Ski or water-skiing.
Boat parade contest participants are asked to register at the BUS on the Greenwoods Road and to pick up the information for participation. Boats to be judged are asked to be in front of the Snowshoe Club campground area by 9 p.m. as the judges will make their selection in the boat category at 9 p.m.
Some homes will be lit up Friday night, but the judging will be done Saturday night after the boat judging is completed. This year’s distinguished judge will be Vera Parent, Peru Town Clerk, who will be escorted around the pond to make the most important decisions on the first to third placements and the honorable mention awards in both the boat and cottage categories.
