HARTFORD — The Pinpoint of Light Spiritualist Camp, 1190 Main St., has announced the following activities for Sunday, Aug. 24:
At 10:30 a.m. Kenneth Green will conduct a healing service and and his wife, Laura Lee Perkins, will be the speaker and medium at the devotional service.
Known as the White Owl Duo, the husband and wife team perform Native American music throughout the United States. They have recorded five albums and were a 2004 Native American Music Awards finalist for best traditional recording.
They have been chosen to be Artists-in-Residence for the U.S. National Park Service four times. Laura is the author of two books that teach using a simplified finger-numbering system to play the six-hole Native American flute. Kenneth is known throughout the world for the six-hole Native American flutes he crafts. He also crafts drums and rattles and is a lapidary artist.
Workshop attendance is limited. Register in advance. Registration form are available at http://www.pinpointoflight.org.
At 12:30 p.m. participants can learn to play the Native American flute with Laura Lee Perkins.
Participants will learn to play the six-hole woodland style flutes. Instruments handcrafted by Green will be provided for class members. Participants will learn the basic fundamentals of playing: hand/instrument position, diaphragmatic breathing, tonguing, rhythms, fingerings, vibrato and special effects. Class time is an hour and a half and the suggested donation is $15; class is limited to 15.
At 2:30 p.m. participants can make a turtle shell rattle with Green.
Native American Indian legends says turtle medicine is about patience, taking time for the essentials of life, examining personal goals, and, while change is constant, transition times will be safe.
Class time is approximately three and $15 is the suggested donation plus a materials fee of $20. Class is limited to eight.
