Countryfolk Music Theatre in East Dixfield closed out its 15th year of operation by holding a two-day music weekend recently and awarding youth music scholarships to three teenagers and a 10-year-old singer. “The Countryfolk program has awarded nearly $6000.00 in awards over the past several years to encourage young people to continue with their musical dreams”, said Larry Bisbee, operator of the family venue. This year’s awardees include Melanie Jordan of Dixfield, Donovan Plato of China, Colin Merrill of Rumford and Savanna Bowen, 10, of Fayette. The certificates, honoring four Maine Hall of Fame members, Betty Cody, ” Deke” Hamilton, Norm Decoteau and ” Whistling” Bill Bedard, were presented by Bisbee on July 27 during youth music scholarship day at Countryfolk.
