This is in response to the Sun Journal story Aug. 29 about how Laura Catevenis was turned away from a DHHS Aspire meeting when she brought her infant. The meeting rules specifically stated “No children; no exceptions.”

Why would she think that they would make an exception for her just because she had a newborn which she was nursing?

I wonder what “no exceptions” means to her.

They denied her admittance because she had a child with her, not because she was nursing.

I would suggest to her that, next time, instead of trying to have them bend the rules and creating an issue, she should call and ask first. I don’t think she would be the first mother to leave a newborn with a responsible adult in order to attend an important meeting that specifically stated, “No children; no exceptions.”

Editor’s note: Laura Catevenis told the Sun Journal that her 8-week-old nurses every hour and won’t drink from a bottle. The meeting she signed up to attend lasted 90 minutes.
