BRUNSWICK — The body of an adult man was recovered from the Androscoggin River between Topsham and Brunswick on Wednesday morning.
The body was recovered just upriver from the hydroelectric dam at Fort Andross. The dam is owned by Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners at Fort Andross. Police and fire department workers were on the scene at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Topsham Police Officer Troy Garrison said at the scene that police and the Maine Warden Service had been searching for about four days for a missing man who had been living in a tent on the Topsham side of the river.
But Garrison was careful to note that police have not yet identified the body.
“We have no idea if it’s the subject we were looking for,” he said.
At 9:45 a.m., Brunswick firefighters were preparing to launch a boat from a boat launch on Mill Street to retrieve the body. Garrison said the body would likely be taken to the state medical examiner’s office.
