AUBURN — There will be a bean supper at Sixth Street Congregational Church at 109 Sixth St. from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.

The menu consists of two types of beans, brown bread, cole slaw, hot dogs, American chop suey, beverage and assorted desserts. The cost of the meal is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 12. Children age 5 and under are free.

Halloween dance at New Gloucester Amvets

Ghostly New England treasure

AUBURN — “Lost Loot: Ghostly New England Treasure Tales” will be presented at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.

Join Patricia Hughes in the search for pirate treasure, military items, lost towns and mining treasures as she shares from her book, “Lost Loot: Ghostly New England Treasure Tales.”

Hughes book includes stories on abandoned and lost towns, ghostly treasure, buried mines and Native American legends. Journey through New England and learn about the lost pirate riches of Captain Kidd, Blackbeard, Edward Low and other dastardly buccaneers. CMMC plans Women’s Health Fair

LEWISTON — Central Maine Medical Center will host a Women’s Health Fair from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the Chairmen’s Rooms at the 12 High Street Medical Office Building (lower level).

Those attending will have the opportunity to learn more about what CMMC has to offer women in the greater central Maine region.

Representatives from several CMMC departments will be on hand to provide information and answer questions about breast cancer, domestic violence, heart disease prevention, osteoporosis, sexually transmitted infections, obstetrics, SafeVoices, Baby Friendly Hospital and sexual assault crisis.

The event will feature complimentary facial dermascans, osteoporosis screenings and blood pressure checks. Giveaways and door prizes will be awarded. Participants will also have the opportunity to enter in a drawing for a FitBit bracelet.

Fright Fest is Oct. 31 in Auburn

AUBURN — The City of Auburn Recreation Division will host the annual Fright Fest event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Hasty Community Center. Fright Fest is an event for children in grades pre-K through six.

Activities will include: games, face painting, a candy corn guessing jar, parade of costumes, prizes and refreshments. Auburn invites its citizens to take part in this free, family-friendly, recreational event.

VFW recruiting event in Lewiston

LEWISTON — The Auburn Veterans of Foreign Wars at 588 Minot Ave. will have a recruiting table set up at the Tractor Supply store at 1619 Lisbon St. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, and Saturday, Nov. 1.

VFW Post 1603 Commander Hugh Brown will have this set up and ready for veterans who served overseas and received a campaign ribbon or medal to become a member.

Even if you aren’t eligible to join the VFW, stop by if you have any questions about any issues. Members will assist you or give you a contact person who will.

YWCA babysitter training course

LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will hold an American Red Cross babysitting course from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sundays, Nov. 2 and 9. This course is open to boys and girls 11-15 years old.

Each babysitter will be taught home and outdoor safety procedures, basic child care, caregiving, safe play, first aid, critical emergency and professional leadership skills. Each participant will receive an ARC child and infant CPR certification upon completion of the course.

This babysitter training course is designed for pre-teens and teenagers that are responsible for caring for younger siblings or those wanting to gain the proper skills to have babysitting clientele of their own.

LEWISTON — Hot Country Nights dinner and show is back by popular demand at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8, at Lewiston High School.
