At the Empire Theatre this afternoon there will be given a special matinee of the notable dramatic success “The Thief” as presented last night by Charles Frohman’s star cast. A reduction in prices has been made for the matinee in the reach of all. The sale of seats for this performance indicates at this early hour a large house will be in attendance. “The Thief” has all the elements of a woman’s as well as a man’s play, therefore does the woman find in this drama a theme appealing to her.

50 years ago, 1959

Registration for the second semester of Lewiston Adult Evening Night School will be held next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the high school with classes beginning Feb. 2, it was announced last night by LHS Principal Linwood J. Kelley.

Attendance at the first semester numbered 450 students and Kelley said nearly that many probably will attend the second semester.

LHS offers the second largest and second oldest night school in Maine, being topped only by Portland, and numerous subjects will be available for those in attendance.

25 years ago, 1984

Those are the colors of the old Pine Tree Warriors Drum and Bugle Corps and Color Guard, and they’ll march the streets of Lewiston again. The distinctive uniforms will be seen again this year as the Warriors celebrate the 25th anniversary of their founding.

Bert Dutil, the man who stood at the helm of the Warriors and guided their destiny during their years of musical excellence, becoming known as Mr. Warrior, says the anniversary will be held May 17 through 20.

A long list of activities is planned, ranging from appropriate opening ceremonies to a massive anniversary parade on closing day.
