1910 – 2014

TOPSHAM — George Hayes Andrews of Norway, a consummate gentleman and lifelong resident of Maine, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, at The Highlands in Topsham. He was 104 years of age.

Born in Augusta in 1910, he graduated from Cony High School and the University of Maine in 1932. He was a local businessman who led by example at Andrews Fuel, Norway National Bank, the Canal National Bank, the Norway Water District, Stephens Memorial Hospital and Bessey Motors.

He was actively involved in and will long be remembered at the Norway Country Club, the Weary Club, Camp Cinnamon, Cove to Cove, The Highlands and Aldea Mar.

George was an avid skier, golfer and reader. He loved to travel, play cribbage and always worked the daily crossword puzzles in pen.

His wife of 57 years, Marita Cushman Andrews, predeceased him in 1992.

George leaves behind a wealth of people who are better for having known him, including his children and their spouses, Ann and Peter Noble and Cushman and Pamela Andrews; his grandchildren and their spouses, Debbie Noble and Bob Paulison, Doug and Tappen Noble, Cushman and Amy Andrews and Lydia and Bill Schwarz; and his great-grandchildren, Emily, Sophie, George, Margaret, Hattie, Quinn, Eleanor, Hadley and Hillary.
