MINOT — Selectmen learned Monday that they will have an opportunity to meet with Androscoggin County Commissioner Beth Bell regarding her vote to override the county Budget Committee and change the salary and insurance benefits of commissioners.
At their Dec. 22 meeting, selectmen, believing that the commissioners’ actions were not in the best interest of the county or the municipalities they represent, directed Town Administrator Arlan Saunders to arrange a meeting.
Saunders said Bell responded in a timely fashion.
“I’d be happy to attend a meeting,” Bell wrote. “I will check with your new commissioner, Alfreda M. Fournier. I would assume that Alfreda should attend with me.”
Bell said her term as commissioner runs through 2016, “under which I was elected with the compensation of $7,200 per year, and to contribute 7 percent toward any benefits, like the rest of county employees. Please note that in the final budget, I voted to cut my compensation to $5,000 per year and to limit the benefits to single-family coverage, which is what I had anyhow but one other commissioner did not.”
Selectmen are to meet next on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
Bell said the commissioners intend to formally address each town in the county and to respond to the letters and questions posed to them.

Dan Callahan, whose three-year term is also up in March, has taken out nomination papers for another term.
Town Clerk Heidi Schneider said William Perry has taken out nomination papers for election to the Board of Selectmen.
Schneider also noted Scott Tiner’s term on the RSU 16 board of directors is expiring, but, as of Monday no one had taken out papers.
The deadline for filing nomination papers at the Town Office is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20. The election will be held Friday, March 6.
