JAY — A local man is accused of driving with a suspended license and possessing 2 grams of cocaine, Detective Michael Mejia said Wednesday.
Officer Dylan Rider spotted Matthew Adams, 21, of Jay driving on Main Street in North Jay on Tuesday afternoon and knew Adams was not licensed to do so.
Adams pulled into a driveway. When Rider went to talk to him, Adams ran from him and had just entered the woods when Rider apprehended him.
After Adams was arrested, 2 grams of cocaine in a baggie was found in his possession, Mejia said.
Rider arrested Adams on a felony charge of unlawful possession of Schedule W drug and misdemeanor charges of violation of conditions of release, operating after suspension and refusing to submit to arrest.
He was out on bail on unrelated charges.
A conviction on the drug charge carries up to 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Adams bail was set at $850 cash. He remained at the Franklin County jail in Farmington at noon Wednesday.
