LOVELL – A jug band plays homemade music. Nothing fancy, just catchy songs played on wooden instruments, made up by musicians while sitting around the kitchen table. It’s the sound of people having a good time.
Thursday, Aug. 28, that sound will echo throughout the Brick Church for the Performing Arts when the Half Moon Jug Band takes the stage.
Band members play banjos, guitars, mandolins, drums and electric bass. They round out their sound with strong vocals, trumpet and kazoo. And because they like to interact with their audiences, expect jokes, stories and mandatory sing-alongs.
They have deep roots in Maine with accents, songs and squeaky rubber lobsters to prove it.
The Half Moon Jug Band has produced several CDs, including “Jug Band Army,” released in 2005 and described by the Portland Phoenix as “a raucous affair, full of crazy sing-alongs, oompa-loompa-sounding bass tracks, and lyrics that will have you questioning their sanity.”
The Half Moon Jug Band will perform at 7 p.m. The Brick Church for the Performing Arts is on Christian Hill Road, just off Route 5. Tickets, available at the door, are $10 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for families. For more information, call 925-2792.
