Four Lewiston schools were without power for about an hour Friday when a squirrel tangled with a transformer at the Crowley Road substation and lost. The lights went out at Farwell, Longley and Montello elementary schools as well as at Lewiston High School around 11:15 a.m. Also affected were parts of Lisbon, Webster, Russell and Pleasant streets, Central Avenue and parts of East Avenue. Principals at all three elementary schools said routine was not affected by the outage. “It was no big deal. The kids got a few extra minutes at the noon break,” said Carroll Scribner, principal at Longley, “and the teachers ate by candlelight.”
