HALLOWELL — Like “The Moth Radio Hour” on Maine Public Radio, “The Hook Story Hour” is is looking for people with true stories to tell in front of a live, supportive audience. The Hallowell Lyceum and the Gaslight Theater are promoting the event, an evening of stories to be told live on May 8 at Hallowell City Hall.
This is a second-chance for amateur, citizen, and professional storytellers to participate in this evening of storytelling and discovery. This is a very simple concept and has only two basic rules: the stories must be true and they must be told without scripts.
To start this off, “The Hook” is looking for people to prepare a two- minute pitch for a story they would like to tell. The theme of this story hour has been simplified to be: “ What experience have you had that has had an impact on your life.” It would be best if the experience had a unique connection to the area, but any pitches that sound like a great story will be considered.
Pitches will be heard on April 14 at 6 p.m. at The Harlow Gallery, 160 Water St,. in Hallowell. Pitches may also submitted as a six- line written pitch and emailed to: [email protected]. Pitches may also be left as a two-minute message at the Gaslight Theater phone line 207-626-3698. We expect that the stories should be no more than seven minutes. Because this is a new concept to people, if your pitch is chosen, coaching may be provided before the evening of the event.
