Maine Savvy Caregiver 1 training

FARMINGTON — SeniorsPlus announces Savvy Caregiver 1 training, scheduled in Franklin county. This training is designed to teach caregivers how to take care of themselves, reduce stress, and communicate more easily with individuals suffering from dementia.

This is a six-week workshop, with each session lasting two hours.

Lithuanian Heritage Club meeting

RUMFORD — The Lithuanian Heritage Club will meet at noon Wednesday, May 3, at Sam’s Italian Shop, on Route 2, Rumford, Maine.

Plans for an upcoming trip to Lithuania will be addressed.

‘Nocturnal Creatures’ at MWP

GRAY — The Maine Wildlife Park’s kick-off event will open a new exhibit “Nocturnal Creatures,” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at Maine Wildlife Park. There will be a variety of activities for children to participate in.

Participants will be able to see animals that live in the area, but are scarcely seen, as well as learn the difference between truly nocturnal and “crepuscular” lifestyles.

Although there is no live bat display, there will be a special exhibit and lots of information about Maine bats and what biologists and “citizen scientists” are doing to help protect them. Three bat species have recently been added to the Maine Endangered Species list. Free bat posters will be available.

Walkathon for children’s mental health 

FARMINGTON — A community walkathon to recognize Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Mt. Blue High School track.

Free T-shirts and bracelets will be given to the first 250 participants.

There will be giveaways, music, refreshments and more.

Paris Clean Up Day May 6

PARIS — Paris Economic Development Committee’s Paris Clean Up Day will take place Saturday, May 6, where volunteers will remove trash, bottles and refuse from the roads and trails in Paris. 

Volunteer should meet at 10 a.m. at the Paris Town Office parking lot, 33 Market Square.

The rain date will be Saturday, May 13.

Donations sought for sale

NEW SHARON — The New Sharon Community Improvement Team will hold a benefit yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the town office.

Items for the sale are still being accepted, and can be dropped off at the town office during office hours. Arrangements for pickups can be made by contacting 207-778-4015.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to fund projects and events that benefit town residents, such as the CIT’s community vegetable garden and flower beds.

Greenwood Fiddle Jam

GREENWOOD — Greenwood Fiddle Jam sends music through the town from 1 to 4 p.m. every first and third Sunday of the month at the Greenwood Town Office, 593 Gore Road.

There is a slow jam through 2 p.m.

Crafting group to meet 

OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Sewing and Craft Group meets from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays at the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church off Route 121. The group does not meet the third Wednesday of the month.

The club members put on the tea kettle and and meet to work on individual and group projects and share ideas, skills, books and patterns. Projects members work on include knitting, crocheting, quilting, painting, fabric painting, card making from scraps, sewing table runners, making Christmas crafts and zentangle.
