Elks to hold Mother’s Day meal, show
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Elks will hold a Mother’s Day meal and show on Saturday, May 9.
The main courses will include barbecue chicken or pork tenderloin. Cost of of a ticket to the meal is $20.
The social hour will begin at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and the show at 8 p.m.

Iris society plans plant auction
AUBURN — The Maine Iris Society will hold its annual spring plant auction Tuesday, May 12, at the United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave., Auburn. Bidding begins at 7 p.m.
Society members will offer their own plant divisions and offshoots for the sale. There will be perennial divisions and annual seedlings and shrubs if available. Special plants that have been donated this year include lilacs, a climbing rose and primula.
Door prizes to five lucky winners will be Siberian irises. Proceeds will be used to fund the Society’s activities, including two free public flower shows, scheduled for May 30 at Lewiston High School and June 13 at Auburn Middle School.
Daughters of the American Revolution chapter to meet
LEWISTON — The Mary Dillingham Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Hope Haven Gospel Mission, 209 Lincoln St., Lewiston.
The program will be presented by Elizabeth Swift. Members should bring a bag lunch. Prospective members are welcome.
Interview with author of ‘The Shack’ to be screened at Lifetree Café
LEWISTON — Lifetree Café will show “Can God Love a Mess Like Me?” at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at 1919 Lisbon Road.
The program features a filmed interview with author William Paul Young, who wrote “The Shack” and “Crossroads.”
Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Refreshments will be available.

Lecture series to discuss ‘Beyond the Ice Bucket Challenge’
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library, the Great Falls Forum lecture series will present Dr. Brett Morrison, Assistant Professor of Neurology, Johns Hopkins Medical School, speaking on “Beyond the Ice Bucket Challenge: the Latest Research on Lou Gerhig’s Disease (ALS).”
The talk will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, May 15, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library
The event is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch.
