A Lewiston resident was sentenced to 90 days in jail in the police court Wednesday for using indecent language to a woman. On top of that, he was held in $500 for assault upon the policeman who arrested him. Seventh-grade students at Sugg Middle School, Lisbon, have made a special patchwork quilt in memory of Joseph Perkins, a math teacher for 24 years at the school who died unexpectedly during spring vacation in April. When students returned from vacation and learned of Perkins’ death, they wanted to do something special. The seventh-grade language arts class wrote an ode that they sent to his parents, Paul and Mary Perkins of Corinna. They all agreed they wanted to do more in memory of the well-liked teacher who had had so much to offer his students. They decided that each seventh-grader would make one square for the quilt representing Perkins in some special way.
