LIVERMORE FALLS — Residents will have a chance on June 9 to decide on a $2.37 million municipal budget, as well as act on several special questions, and elect two selectmen and two representatives to sit on the RSU 73 school board.
Board Chairwoman Louise Chabot is being challenged by former Chairman William Demaray for a three-year term. Budget Committee member Ronnalean Sanborn and former Selectman Jeff Bryant are seeking a two-year term on the Board of Selectmen.
Selectman Laurie Sanborn is not seeking another term on the board, but instead is running for a seat on the RSU 73 school board. Incumbent RSU 73 board member, Jackie Knight, is also running for another term on that board. She is not challenged.
The board-approved municipal budget is only a few thousand dollars more than the current year’s operating budget. The current year’s tax rate is $21.10 per $1,000 valuation. Town Manager Kristal Flagg said that the rate may increase slightly because of higher RSU 73 costs and Androscoggin County taxes.
In addition to the 35 or so money articles, residents will also decide whether to adopt a Town of Livermore Falls Property Maintenance Ordinance. Last year’s proposal, which was much stricter, was defeated.
Residents will also decide whether to adopt a Shoreland Zoning Ordinance, which brings the local ordinance up-to-date with state regulations, and act on whether to finance two plow trucks at a cost of $229,000.
Also to be decided is whether to withdraw up to $25,000 from surplus for the removal of a dangerous building located at 22 Gagnon St.
Other money articles include $38,350 for elected officials, $203,203 for municipal administration and supplies, $418,574, up $13,000, for the police department, $95,470 for the fire department, and $349,350, down slightly from the current year, for public works.
