University of New Hampshire announces May 2015 graduates

DURHAM, N.H. — The following students graduated from the University of New Hampshire during the Commencement Ceremony held Saturday, May 16, 2015 in Durham, N.H. Students who received the honor of summa cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.7-4.0; students who received the honor of magna cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.50-3.69; and students who received the honor of cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.2-3.49.

Tara Metzger inducted into Phi Beta Kappa

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Tara Metzger, of Lisbon Falls, was recently inducted into Union College’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Metzger majors in Geology.

Juniors and seniors of academic distinction who are candidates for the B.A. or general B.S. degree are eligible for membership in Phi Beta Kappa. Election is based on scholarship and character, with particular attention given to intellectual maturity and breadth.

Nicholas Demosthenes awarded a degree in Lehigh University’s spring 2015 graduating class.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — More than 1,900 Lehigh University students were awarded bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees during the 147th Spring Commencement ceremonies at Goodman Stadium in Bethlehem, Pa.

Among them were Nicholas Demosthenes, of Topsham, who received a Bachelor of Arts.

Emmanuel College’s Donovan inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa

BOSTON — Colleen Donovan, of Auburn, was inducted into the Emmanuel College circle of national leadership honor society Omicron Delta Kappa in April.

Membership in Omicron Delta Kappa is granted to students who demonstrate leadership in athletics, campus or community service, social and religious activities, campus government, creative and performing arts, journalism and media and scholarship. Undergraduate students who are juniors and seniors and rank in the upper 35-percent of their class are eligible for membership.

Wilkes University awards degree to Melissa Fisher of Poland, Maine

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Wilkes University awarded 680 doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degrees to students graduating after the completion of the spring 2015 semester.

Among them were Melissa Fisher, of Poland, who received an M.S. in Education.

Lasell graduate Brianna Robbins receives the 2015 Lasell Bowl

NEWTON, Mass. — Brianna Robbins, of Auburn, a 2015 graduate of Lasell College and communication major, has received the 2015 Lasell Bowl. The Lasell Bowl is awarded annually for outstanding contributions to campus life at Lasell College.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Matthew Schreiber of Naples was one of 41 students from Susquehanna University who recently presented research at the 2015 annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research at University of Kentucky.

Schreiber’s research, titled “Do Sibling Cannibals Grow Up To Try To Eat Their Mates? Aggression And Cannibalism As A Behavioral Syndrome In Wolf Spiders,” and “The Costs And Benefits Of Sibling Cannibalism In The Wolf Spider Tigrosa Helluo: A Mother’s Perspective,” was supervised by Matt Persons, professor of biology at Susquehanna.

The National Conference on Undergraduate Research promotes undergraduate research scholarship and creative activity done in partnership with faculty or other mentors as a vital component of higher education. The annual conference has become a national celebration of undergraduate scholarly activity involving all academic disciplines and all institutions of higher education.

Schreiber, a biology major in the class of 2015, is a 2011 graduate of Lake Regional High School and is the son of Paul and Sara-Sue Schreiber.

Students Named to Champlain College Dean’s List for Spring 2015 Semester

BURLINGTON, Vt. — The following students have been named to the Champlain College Dean’s List for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in the spring 2015 semester.

ELHS grad to graduate summa cum laude

MEDFORD, Mass. — Benjamin Armstrong, a 2011 graduate of Edward Little High School, the son of Andrea Eusden and Charlie Armstrong of Auburn, graduated summa cum laude from Tufts University’s school of engineering in Medford, Mass., on May 17. 

He earned a bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering and will be employed by Sensata Inc. in Attleboro, Mass.

He currently resides in Brighton, Mass.

Bob Jones University holds commencement ceremony

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Heather McNally, of Raymond, was among the more than 700 students who graduated from Bob Jones University Friday, May 8. McNally graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Cross-Cultural Service. 

Goshen College announces 2015 dean’s list

GOSHEN, Ind. — Abigail Dunn, of Auburn, a senior elementary education major, was recently recognized for excellence in academics on the 2014-15 spring semester Dean’s List.

The Dean’s List includes traditional undergraduate students earning at least a 3.75 GPA, while completing at least 12 hours of course work for a letter grade. Only grades from the designated semester are included in the Dean’s List selection process. 

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee holds commencement ceremony

MILWAUKEE — Nathan Charles Andrew, of Greene, was among 3,500 graduates at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee commencement exercises Sunday, May 17, 2015 in Milwaukee.

Andrew graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Peck School of the Arts.

Local student wins award at Hamilton College Class & Charter Day

Clinton, N.Y. — Emily M. Grund, daughter of Susan Pease and David Grund, of Auburn, was named the recipient of The Jonathan Marder Prize at Hamilton College’s annual Class & Charter Day, held on May 11.

The Jonathan Marder Prize, established by Mr. and Mrs. Marder in memory of their son, a member of the Class of 1976, is awarded to a senior who excels in the study of psychology.

Grund, a senior majoring in psychology, is a graduate of Edward Little High School.

Van Haasteren Interns at Lowes

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Corrie Van Haasteren, of Raymond, is serving an internship this summer at Lowes.

Van Haasteren’s responsibilities include financial analysis, financial reporting, and drafting accounting policies. Through the course of this internship, Van Haasteren will gain experience with GAAP and SEC regulations as well as modifying a real time financial plan in accordance with new information.

Van Haasteren is an economics major in the Class of 2016. A 2012 graduate of Hebron Academy High School, he is the son of Christopher and Ellen Van Haasteren.

Belmont University announces spring 2015 dean’s list

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Meghan Murphy, of Winthrop, was named to the spring 2015 dean’s list at Belmont University.

Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.
