TEMPLE — The internationally acclaimed band Session Americana  will perform a concert featuring their recently released album, “Pack Up the Circus,” at the Temple Stream Theater in Temple on at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 28. Special guest Ellie Buckland of Farmington will join them.

Winner of many music awards (including “ Best Folk Band” 2005 and “Best Live Residency” 2013, Boston Music Awards), Session Americana is a renowned and innovative leader in Americana music. The Boston Globe says: “Their sound lives on the edge of exploration, where the freewheeling crackle of a great jam session meets the lean groove of classic country music. The result is rock-solid, rippling with surprise, and delivered by some of the best acoustic musicians around.” About their new album, the Boston Globe says: “Session has a terrific new album called “Pack Up the Circus,” coproduced with Mitchell. It’s their crowning achievement on record, a focused and vibrant statement on what it means to be an artist who’s in it for the long haul.”

Session Americana concerts are legendary and feature a mix of original songs and covers with fresh, down-home arrangements. One might hear a Prince tune, but you might also hear ones by Emmylou Harris, or the Beastie Boys. Their songs range into country, blues, soul, jazz, and rock.

Seated around a table in the traditional Irish setting, the atmosphere is comfortable, with the musicians bantering and getting up often to swap places, instruments, and lead vocals. Their virtuosic playing on strings, harmonica, keyboards and percussion goes hand and hand with a mix of soulful singing and rocking vocals.

The band originates from Boston where the sold-out concerts and club appearances have made them a home-town favorite. They also tour the United States and Europe

Temple Stream Theater events begin two hours before show-time with pizza from the wood-fired oven at the Upside Bakery next to the theater.
