AUBURN — Five Edward Little High School students will attend Girls State at Husson University during the week of June 21st.

Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary this program teaches the importance of civic participation to young women at the end of their junior year in high school. Guest speaker presentations and simulations of government operations occur throughout the week.

The EL delegates are Francesca Haines, Sarah Hammond, Riley McCurdy, Salma Mohamed and Emma Paradie.

Haines, the daughter of Merlyn Haines, has played for the varsity basketball and soccer teams. This spring she was the captain of the varsity lacrosse team. The vice-president of the class of 2016, she is also a member of the Positive Tracks Red Eddies program as well as the Kick-Off Mentors program.

Hammond, the daughter of Greg and Debbie Hammond, has been a member of the varsity soccer, basketball and softball teams all three years of high school. For the past two years she captained the varsity soccer team. She is a member of the Positive Tracks program as well as the Kick-Off Mentors program.

McCurdy, the daughter of Scott and Heidi McCurdy, has been a member of the Speech and Debate team for three years. This past month she participated in national competition in the category of Dual Interpretation. She is captain of the tennis team, a member of the Show choir, vice-president of the Drama Club, and a Class of 2016 executive board member. She serves on the executive council of the Kick-Off Mentors program.

Mohamed, the daughter of Ali and Farhiya Mohamed, is a member of the 2016 executive board where she served as president for two years. She participates in the Youth Court, the Kick-Off Mentors council, and the AVEC (Contemporary Issues) program.

Paradie, the daughter of Verne and Tara Paradie, has been a member of the ELHS swim team all three years and its captain for the past two years. She is also part of the Kick-Off Mentors program and the Red Eddies Positive Tracks program.
