DENMARK — Classical music must be seen live to be appreciated, especially when it comes to children. Thanks to the generous offer by the Guarino Fund of Denmark, such an opportunity has arrived to attend a special Kinderkonzert by the DaPonte String Quartet, at the Denmark Arts Center. 50 West Main S. The quartet will perform a a 45-minute concert, jam packed with years of experience educating young people in the study of chamber music and its creation, providing an introduction to the fundamentals of classical music that is sure to be every bit as joyous, erudite, and witty as the DaPonte’s adult concerts, which will follow at 7 p.m. The concert is free for kids 8 and under. A $5 donation for adults is suggested.
The Daponte String Quartet is Maine’s pre-eminent classical quartet, having performed all over the state (and at Carnegie Hall) since their founding some 23 years ago. Violinist Ferdinand Liva, cellist Myles Jordan, violist Kristen Monke and violinist Lydia Forbes continue to attract new enthusiasts across the country, with shows such as this—a rare foray into Western Maine.
