• Augusta – A hearing on the removal of the seat of government from Augusta to Portland was held before the Committee on Public Buildings and Grounds in the hall of the House of Representative. The crowd was so large that hundreds were turned away.
• The large boiler in the Main street grammar school, Lewiston, went dry the middle of the forenoon, and by the piling on of more fuel when complaints of cold rooms were made, brought the boiler to a white heat, before the real cause of the trouble was discovered. Had an attempt been made to fill the boiler with water by janitor Dillingham, who failed to discover that it was empty, a disastrous explosion would have been inevitable and the loss of life would undoubtedly have been heavy.

Auburn Postmaster Donald C. Gautier confirmed reports which have been circulating that a new Auburn post office at a new location may be a possibility in the not-too-distant future. Gautier said postal officials have been here to inspect the present quarters at Turner and Franklin streets and have found that it is not feasible to enlarge and remodel the present building at the existing location.

BATH – The largest oceangoing barge ever built in the United States was launched smoothly from Bath Iron Works, which executed the technically difficult feat before an estimated crowd of 2,500. An observer said the 643-foot, flat-bottomed vessel lightly nudged a dock at the shipyard as it slid down the ways. As it splashed into the Kennebec River, fireworks boomed and the crowd cheered.
BRYANT POND – Early testimony in the public hearing slated for both afternoon and night sessions was overwhelmingly in favor of maintaining the magneto or hand crank phone systems in this western Maine hamlet.
