NEWRY – The Black Diamond Family Entertainment Series will bring the frolicking fun of The Gizmo Guys and the unpredictable antics of Mr. Smythe as “The Caretaker” to Sunday River Ski Resort Feb. 18 and 20, respectively.
Call it New Vaudeville or a comedy juggling act, the Gizmo Guys combine juggling with fast-paced, offbeat humor. Also known as New Yorkers Allan Jacobs and Barrett Felker, the two “guys” take to the stage wearing checked jackets and baggy pants and carrying suitcases jampacked with tricks. Sure, there are the usual pins and balls, but you never know what the two will pull out next. Could be Chinese yo-yos, or hats, or some other gizmo.
“The Caretaker” is a blue-collar clown, janitor, handyman, and a disaster-maker. His curiosity leads him through a series of unpredictable adventures, as he explores what fun can be had with ordinary recyclable materials and normal working accessories. He combines the arts of illusion, mask, puppetry, voice, music, mime, improvisation and audience participation.
Both shows are at 7 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Summit Resort Hotel. Advance tickets are $4 for children (6-12), $6 for adults. They will be $6 and $8 at the door. Tickets may be purchased on the mountain or at Books N Things in Bethel. For more information, call 824-3575.
