WILTON — A merger between Craig Weeks and Theresa Mosher has led to the creation of Weeks Farm farm stand at 176 McCrillis Corner Rd.
Mosher has been operating Rose Haven Gardens but the loss of three greenhouses over the winter left her with a lot of rubble and no space to sell her products since one of those greenhouses was going to be converted into a farm stand.
She and Weeks have been a couple since April. Many are familiar with the Christmas trees, wreaths and maple syrup that he produces. The pair decided to open a farm stand in his sap house and Mosher says the response has been very positive in the week that they have been open.
The sap house is cool and while the evaporator still takes up a back corner, Mosher said new shelving will be added and the floor will be redone.
Mosher said people are happy to have another farm stand offering locally grown produce and prepared foods. “I’ve expanded the hours beyond what we had planned for customer convenience,” she added. Having her own space to sell things also works better for her than setting up at a farmers’ market.
Mosher expects the stand to be open each year from February through the end of December. Maple syrup will be among the first items available. Baked goods, jams, and hand scrubs will also be available for much of the year. Fresh vegetables will be available as harvested from the greenhouse. Christmas trees, wreaths, holiday baked goods and gift items will close out the year.
Plans for the farm include building a barn and erecting another greenhouse. Eventually Mosher will move her greenhouse to the new location too to make it more convenient.
Free samples of one the day’s baked goods are offered to visitors. During the next month or so, coupons are also being given with purchases. Customers making any purchase will receive a $1 off coupon for a Christmas tree or wreath. If $10 in bakery items are purchased, or bakery order is placed, a $2 off coupon for a Christmas tree or wreath is given. Those buying $50 or more of baked goods will receive a free jar of jam.
Barbara Hall of Rumford visited on Friday afternoon. “I saw the sign on the roadside and drove in to check it out,” she said. She was looking for beet greens, which had already sold out. Instead, she bought a whoopie pie and two tarts and said she would stop in again if she was in the area.
Products offered at Weeks Farm include breads, pies, pastries, donuts, jams and jellies, honey, non-GMO seedlings, three season non-GMO produce, maple syrup, Christmas trees, wreaths, and hay.
The farm stand is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday hours are 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday’s are 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The stand will also be open by appointment for pre-order pick-up.
