1937 – 2015

JAY — Jane M. Simoneau, 77, a longtime resident of Jay, passed away Sunday, July 12, at her home.

She was born Aug. 13, 1937, in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Alfred “Ted” Simoneau and Florence A. (Peary) Simoneau. She was a graduate of Jay High School and continued her education at Farmington Teachers College.

Enthusiastic for education, she worked as a second-grade teacher in Guam, Hawaii, and Maine in both Millinockett and Livermore Falls. She retired in 1995, after 34 years of service.

Avidly devoted to her faith, she was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. She was also a member of the Maine Teachers Association, the National Teachers Association, the Retired Teachers Association of Androscoggin County and the Tri-Town Ministerial Association Food Bank. Jane cherished the outdoors, but had a special adoration for hiking with her nephews. She loved to travel and spent many summers at two of her favorite locations, Yellowstone National Park and Denali National Park, working in the gift shops. Most recently, she enjoyed traveling to New Port Richie, Fla., with her dear friend Pearl during the winter months.

She is survived by her sister, Joyce Poulin and her husband, Rene, of Jay; several nephews and their wives, Ted and Jackie Poulin of Alpharetta, Ga., Brian and Josie Poulin of Turner, Keith and Lynn Poulin of Timnath, Colo., and Jeff and Cheryl Marceau of Livermore. She is also survived by her grandnephews, Eric and Michelle Poulin of Eliot, Adam Poulin of Freeport, Joshua and Allison Marceau of Bath, Neil Poulin of Denver, Colo., Craig and Katie Poulin of Madison, Wis., Dana and Kyriel Poulin of Cazenovia, N.Y., Aaron Poulin of Schenectady, N.Y., Jacob and Samantha Marceau of Biddeford, Kurtis Brown of Old Town, Trevor Brown of Old Town; and one grandniece, Bethany Poulin of Glens Falls, N.Y., who all brought her incredible joy throughout her life.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Paul Marceau; and life-long friend, Pearl Berry.
