LEWISTON — The Franco-American Education Foundation awarded $46,500 in scholarship funds to recent high school graduates from the greater Lewiston-Auburn area at its recent Awards Banquet held at the Franco Center.

The sum is in addition to the $131,500 being awarded in 2015 to students presently attending college and in their sophomore, junior and senior years. The recipients are Danielle Gagne, Kaitlyn Rourke, Nicole Robitaille, Emily Martin, Meagan Ring, Lucas Rushton, Emily Payne, Brandon Bernier, David Hersom, Jordan Hersom, Margaruette Seguin, Jessica Boulet, Olivia Paione, Timothy Dube, Zachary Labadie, Sarah Johnson, Jenna Cote, Gabrielle Poulin, Madeline Soucie, Claudia Dionne, Adam Desjardins, Zoe Caron, Joshua Therrien, Alexandria Wilson, Kadie Veinote, Matthew Bouchard, Ryan Spooner and Emily Levasseur.

The Foundation was created to provide scholarship assistance for high school graduates of Franco- American ancestry pursuing higher education at vocational schools, colleges and universities. It is qualified by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) organization to award scholarships and to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers, gifts and contributions.

The Foundation is the brainchild of attorney Robert Couturier, who during his lifetime left a legacy of accomplishment to our community, the Franco-American population and this Foundation. 

The Foundation is led by a Board of Directors President Jeannine Tardif, Treasurer Monique Couturier, Susan Lagueux, Roger Couturier, Rachel Maier, Gisele Couturier and Clerk Paul Dionne.

The Foundation will annually award scholarships to qualifying students based upon heritage, achievement and need.
