FARMINGTON — The following are some of the games and events at Summerfest this Saturday.
Fire Truck Rides
The Farmington Fire Rescue Department has kindly offered to give rides to the young and old in one of their fire trucks as a special event during Summer Fest, from 1-3 p.m. Permission has been given by the Better Living Center for the fire truck rides to begin and end in their parking lot, just off Front Street, and across from the Narrow Gauge Cinemas.
Fire Chief Terry Bell says that each trip around the downtown area will accommodate four children and two adults, and that there should always be an adult on the trip in case the fire truck is called to a fire emergency. Be sure to get in line early!
Disc Golf at the “Wedge”
Troll Valley Campgrounds and Disc Golf staff are generously dedicating their time and expertise and the loan of two disc golf units on Saturday, July 25th from 2-4:30 p.m. during Summer Fest. The units will be set up in the field below the Snack Shack known as “the Wedge” (perhaps because it’s wedged in between the old Narrow Gauge railroad bed and the river).
Golf is a low impact sport but with all the attributes of real golf. At Troll Valley, just 2 miles west of Farmington, in addition to their great campground, there is a new 18-hole pro course and a full pro shop with Disc sales, rentals, and a lunch counter. Disc golfers at Troll Valley have leagues and tournaments and season membership available. For anyone who has never tried this sport, Summer Fest would be an excellent time to get acquainted with it, and at no cost!
Family lawn games at the Pierce House
In the spirit of “Old Tyme Fun”, the theme for this year’s Summer Fest, there will be a number of old fashioned family lawn games on the front lawn of the Pierce House. There will be croquet and something starting at 11 a.m.
Children and adults will enjoy trying their hand at some of the games their grandparents played generations ago. Thanks go to Darlene Mooar for making the Pierce House lawn available and to the volunteers from Franklin Savings Bank who are contributing their time and energy to coordinate the games.
