AUGUSTA – Erica Jackson of Oxford was awarded a $1,000 Ed and Fay Carpenter Award by The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation at the 11th annual Tees & Textbooks event in Waterville Monday, June 8, announced Greg Dugal, president and CEO of MEIA.
Jackson attends the University of Southern Maine and majors in tourism and hospitality. She is also working for the Poland Spring Resort.
The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation began in 1984 and is designed to offer support and encouragement to Maine students pursuing education and a career in hospitality. The program has awarded over $192,000 to 260 students since its inception. This year, 12 students were presented with scholarships totaling $12,000.
“We are very pleased to offer these scholarships to encourage these terrific Maine students, many of whom are hoping to pursue a career in hospitality,” said Dugal. “The hospitality industry in Maine is the largest industry in Maine and offers a variety of good career paths to Maine students.”
Scholarships are awarded after review by a selection committee that considers scholastic records, financial need, extracurricular activities and the applicant’s desire to work in hospitality.
