AUBURN — Auburn Public Library will host a series of Fall Tuesday afternoon matinees beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, with a showing of “An American in Paris.”
The 1951 musical romance stars Gene Kelly as Jerry Mulligan, an American ex-G.I. who stays in post-war Paris to become a painter and falls for the gamine charms of Lise Bouvier, portrayed by Leslie Caron. However, his paintings come to the attention of Milo Roberts, a rich American heiress, who is interested in more than just art.
The library will show “His Girl Friday” at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13. When hard-charging New York newspaper editor Walter Burns (Cary Grant) discovers that his ex-wife, investigative reporter Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell), has gotten engaged to insurance agent Bruce Baldwin (Ralph Bellamy), he unsuccessfully tries to lure her away from tame domestic life with a story about the impending execution of convicted murderer Earl Williams. But when Hildy discovers Williams may be innocent, her reporter instincts take over.
The matinee series will conclude at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, with the showing of “Top Hat.” In this film, an American dancer travels to Britain and falls for a model whom he initially annoyed, but she mistakes him for his goofy producer. The movie stars Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
