The mayors of Lewiston and Auburn Wednesday said they are still interested in pursuing the possibility of a joint library to serve both communities. Auburn Mayor Richard L. Trafton and Lewiston Mayor James P. Howaniec intend to appoint an informal panel to take over the work proposed for a study committee. Monday, Auburn councilors rejected an amended plan to form a joint study committee after a Lewiston councilor suggested the facility should be located in Lewiston. The Auburn City Council had earlier approved the original proposal. “I’ve talked with citizens in both communities and there is still considerable interest, enough to pursue the idea,” Trafton said Wednesday.
