LEWISTON — The 2015 PAL Hop Reunion will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Lewiston Memorial Armory.

Two of the original, legendary PAL Hop bands, The Moon Dawgs and the Rockin’ Recons, will perform.

The event is hosted by the Auburn Police Activities League to support at-risk youths.

The PAL Hop was a popular event in the Auburn-Lewiston area in the 1960s. Each Friday evening, thousands of local teens would hang out with friends and dance to their favorite local bands. There was a “battle of the bands” vibe, with bands from across New England showing off their talents.

The Auburn Police Department established the Police Activities League in response to statistics on juvenile offenders and victims in a certain area of the city. The City Council turned over a vacant property at 24 Chestnut St. and in April 2013, the Auburn PAL Center opened in the heart of that area.

The center serves at-risk youths by providing a safe place to spend time after school and during the summer months. Youths of all ages spend time at the center, getting homework help, learning from mentors, cooking, playing games and sports, and having fun in a safe environment with trusted volunteers.
