AUGUSTA – The “Concerts at Jewett” series will feature the DaPonte String Quartet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, in Jewett Hall Auditorium.

The program will feature Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet with guest clarinetist Karen Beacham of the Nordica Trio. Mozart’s Quartet in F and Beethoven’s Quartet No. 13 in B flat will also be included.

Mozart wrote the Quartet in F in his beloved Vienna when he was 17, a classic quartet whose Andante movement graces relaxation CDs. Two years before his death in 1791 at age 34, Mozart composed the Clarinet Quintet. In adding the clarinet to the string quartet, he created one of the most popular and beautiful pieces in chamber music. Beethoven’s Quartet No. 13 is one of his late quartets, written only a year or two before his death. It is thought by many to be the best string quartet of all time.

Tickets: $10/$5, children 12, free. Tickets are available at Pat’s Pizza in Augusta, Apple Valley Books in Winthrop, Al Corey Music Center in Waterville and at the door. For tickets, call 621-3551.
