PORTLAND – Judging by its name, Disaster CompleX will fit right in on the Taste of Chaos Tour. The tour’s audience seems to believe so as well, with the band recently beating out three other Maine groups for a spot on the MySpace.com stage when the tour stops at the Cumberland County Civic Center March 6.
Lead singer Levi Archer didn’t think much of the opportunity to submit his band’s music to MySpace.com for the contest, recalling “it was just another day going through the business.” Soon, however, he learned the contest judges had selected Disaster CompleX as one of four finalists to compete for the opportunity to play alongside As I Lay Dying, the Deftones and the other bands on the national tour.
Noticing that Disaster CompleX was the only metal band, Levi used the tactic of “Vote Metal” in promotional flyers. And, apparently, voting fans took notice.
Disaster CompleX won the contest, in part, Levi believes, thanks to the support of other local metal bands such as Tomorrow’s Tragedy and Ruin, as well as the fact that so many people in Maine like metal.
“The fans spoke and more voted for us. The response was overwhelming,” the lead singer said.
Levi has noticed that the band is receiving an increased amount of attention because of its contest victory. Together as a full unit since only August of 2004, Disaster CompleX has accomplished a lot in a short time.
There is “mad hype” around the band, and the quartet is excited about its future, which includes plans to release a full-length album by the end of the year.
Levi and guitarist Tonio Dicentes are moving to the Portland area to be closer to bassist Bob Rox and drummer Barry Compton. For now, fans can hear Disaster CompleX on its self-titled EP. The band will also play at the Tomorrow’s Tragedy CD release party Feb. 11 at the Underground on Hammond Street in Bangor.
