Elks scholarship, award open for entries

RUMFORD — The 2016 Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship and Elks Legacy Award information has been distributed to the guidance offices at Mountain Valley, Dirigo and Telstar High Schools and Gould Academy for seniors  who wish to further their education at an accredited four year college or university.

The legal residence of Gould Academy applicants must be within the towns comprising the above mentioned school districts.

Home-schooled students who will complete their secondary education this academic year and whose legal residence is also within the school districts mentioned above may apply.

Book-making class is announced

FARMINGTON — Upcountry Artists Gallery and Learning Center will host “Handcrafted Books: Advanced Accordion Book,” from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at 161 Main St.

The cost is $25 per person, with a maximum of 10 students. Those interested may stop by the gallery to preregister and reserve their spots.

Artist Lizzie Chenard will guide participants through the steps to making a book. This is a beginner-level class; no experience is necessary. Learn fundamental bookbinding techniques such as creating covers and folding, gluing and scoring techniques. At the end of class each student will leave with a finished accordion book for sketching, journaling and more.

All materials will be provided, and light refreshments will be served. Sharp tools will be used. This class is not suitable for young children.

Everyone’s Resource Depot mask making

FARMINGTON — Everyone’s Resource Depot, in the Education Center at the University of Maine at Farmington, will hold Halloween mask making workshops from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Oct. 26 to 30, and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 31.

Many creative ideas for masks, costumes and party decorations made from ERD’s assortment of reusable materials will be shared with workshop participants. Materials in good supply for mask making are sparkly felt, yarn, colorful foam pieces and buttons, paper of all kinds, leather scraps, feathers, ribbon and fabric. A small fee will be charged for materials and instruction.

All ages are welcome.

MEXICO — Mexico High School Class of 1949 will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Dick’s Restaurant. Spouses and friends are welcome.

Historical Society to meet

LIVERMORE — The Livermore/Livermore Falls Historical Society meets at George Bunten Post 10 American Legion Hall on 17 Reynolds Ave on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 1:30 p.m.

The guest speaker on Oct. 27 will be Wayne Dimond. His program will be on antique Portland Glass and Wildflower glass.

The public is invited to attend.

SeniorsPlus staff to answer questions

FARMINGTON — SeniorsPlus will be at the Farmington Town Office from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28. Staff will be on hand to answer questions or concerns about services and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities and their families.

The event is free and open to the public.
