Two pleasant Edward Little High School reunions were held, the members of 1901 and their friends enjoying a pleasant time in Knights of the Golden Eagle hall at court and Main street while the members of 1905 and their friends had a merry time in New Odd Fellows hall.
The handsome five pound box of candy given by Charles Martel, the well known Lewiston pharmacist to the person, guessing nearest to the number of beans in a jar, which was on exhibition in his store, was won by J. C. Leprohon. There were 7897 beans in the jar. Mr. Leprohon’s guess was 7896. The second nearest guess was made by Mrs. L. C. Baribault whose number was 7899. The beans were counted Xmas day by Messrs. Morneau, Giguere, Miner, Ward and Martel.
50 Years Ago, 1955
Lewiston Alderman Robert Caron will start making preparations for the removal of about 1,500 cakes of ice from No Name Pond to be used for the erection of an ice castle for the forthcoming International Snowshoe Congress in Lewiston and Auburn. The alderman said his work will include marking of the area where the ice will be cut. About 300,000 pounds of ice will go into the castle which is expected to be erected in the city park.

As our nation’s dangerously feverish credit card buying binge at last shows signs of tapering off – in response to tortuously steep borrowing costs, some restraints (though voluntary) on reckless buying – banks and other financial organizations are launching a new blitz to sell you a different kind of plastic passport to easy spending: the DEBIT card. Roughly 1.4 million of its new debit cards already have been issued, says Visa. A new debit card, dubbed Master Card II, has meanwhile just been presented by Master Card’s Interbank Card Association to America’s plastic-prone “cashless” society.
