PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce has announced the 2016 Christmas Parade theme will be “The Sounds of Christmas.”

Jennifer Boenig, parade committee chairwoman, said the committee chose this theme with the hope of bringing more music into the parade.

“With the ‘Sounds of Christmas’ theme, we’re looking for floats to bring in some musical elements and there is an overwhelming amount of Christmas songs to choose from,” said Boenig. “Christmas carols are such a part of Christmas and the committee is looking forward to seeing how this theme will bring some of them to life during next year’s parade.”

The 40th Annual Christmas Parade will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, and will run from Main Street, Norway, to Market Square, Paris. In addition to the parade, the chamber will host the 6th Annual Festival of Trees Friday, Nov. 25, through Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016.

“Both the business community and the community as a whole have truly embraced the Festival of Trees event,” said Jim Trundy, event chairman. “All weekend long, a steady stream of people came to the event this year in the hopes of winning one of the 33 trees on display. We look forward to seeing more community members come through the door next year, as well as more businesses and organizations participating so we can give away even more trees and more money to charity.”

The chamber donates at least 20 percent of its net revenue from the event to charity and this year was able to donate $3,000 to local charities thanks to the generosity of the community. A $1,500 check was presented to Rightstart for the Christmas for Kids and Christmas for Teens programs. The remaining $1,500 was split between three area food pantries: the Oxford Hills food pantry in Norway, the Guy E. Rowe School food pantry in Norway and the Helping Hands food pantry of Oxford.
