•Ex-Mayor Eveleth of Auburn found a pocket book containing $112 in it at the corner of Turner and Court streets yesterday afternoon. The pocket book was at once given to Deputy Marshal Lyford and within five minutes after the finding of the pocket book the money was again in the hands of the owner. The owner proved to be S. H. Lane of Turner who was in town on business. Mr. Lane did not seem to be especially anxious about his loss.

•Down in Maine butter is selling for from 15 to 20 cents a pound, and the Bangor News says the fact is that “the cows get so much choice feed this summer that they cannot find a market for all of their butter fat.”

50 Years Ago, 1955

Fluid milk, the product which pays taxes and the feed bill for Maine dairy farmers, may soon have a more active competitor with a new “Fresh Process” evaporated milk process recently perfected by Foremost Diaries Inc.

The Foremost process results in an evaporated milk that in appearance and odor resembles fresh pasteurized homogenized milk and when reconstituted with equal parts of water tastes similar to whole milk, says a report from L.M. Dorsey of the Extension Service.

The Androscoggin Comprehensive Training (ACT) Program is taking “affirmative action” to correct some of the existing imbalances in employment opportunities in Androscoggin County.

In keeping with directives from the U.S. Department of Labor to all deliveries of funds authorized by the Comprehensive Employment Training Act (CETA) for fiscal year 1981, a conscious effort is being made to enhance the job opportunities of minority populations and to eliminate sex stereotyping in employment.

Populations which have traditionally been discriminated against, such as the handicapped, veterans, older workers and youths, will be among those ACT will focus on in helping them find jobs.
