FARMINGTON — Police tentatively identified a Wilton woman on Saturday as the female who was hit by a vehicle and killed while she walking on Wilton Road early Friday, Police Chief Jack Peck Jr. stated in a release.
Police tentatively identified the woman hit by a vehicle on Wilton Road early New Year’s day as Taylor Gaboury, a 21-year-old from West Wilton.
Gaboury’s parents, Ricky and Tena Gaboury, had reported her missing Friday evening, he said.
Police met with the family Friday night and due to the body’s clothing and tattoos, it is believed that Gaboury was the victim of this tragic motor vehicle crash, he said.
Police said Gaboury was walking east on the road at about 1:40 a.m. when she was struck near Franklin Memorial Hospital. The victim had no identification on her and police had been trying to identify her since early Friday.
Gaboury’s parents were thankful for such a strong support system.
“It’s so comforting,” Gaboury’s father said. “I come from a very large family; we’re very tight knit. That is just an amazing support group.”
Gaboury was a graduate and athlete of Mt. Blue High School’s Class of 2012.
Her parents said that Gaboury was an amazing, strong woman.
“She touched so many lives,” Gaboury’s father said. “Everyone who knew her liked her. She just had the hugest heart.”
They were also thankful for the outpouring of support from the entire community.
“There are people we don’t even know, that she didn’t even know, Gaboury’s mother said. “It is an unbelievable feeling. There are really good people out there.
“We would like to thank everybody, from the deepest (part) of our hearts. I don’t have the words. To have all that support from people you don’t know — it’s a comforting feeling.
“Heaven definitely gained an angel, and we lost a beautiful, beautiful person.”
Gaboury’s parents said the fact that Clark has been caught and apprehended “takes a a little bit of the sting away.”
They expressed their faith in the justice system, and are glad that the man allegedly responsible isn’t out on the loose.
Police arrested the driver of the vehicle, Tommy Clark, 25, of Industry on a felony charge of aggravated driving under the influence. Clark had fled the scene of the accident but, after an investigation, police located him at a Farmington motel, according to a release.
Clark is being held at Franklin County jail and his bail is set at $75,000 cash. Officers anticipate his first court appearance will be Monday.
“I wish to thank the media and the public with their assistance,” Peck said.
An autopsy is planned for Sunday at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta, and the victim’s identity will be confirmed at that time, Peck said.
So far, the family has been unable to plan the service, but hope to do so once Gaboury’s identification is official.
A GoFundMe page has been put up to help raise funds for Gaboury’s funeral, and had already raised almost $12,000 by Saturday night.
