Immigration Services to host an open house

LEWISTON — U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20,  at the Lewiston Public Library.

USCIS personnel from the Portland Field Office will be on hand to provide general information and answer questions about USCIS programs, including naturalization, citizenship, permanent residency and other immigration-related benefits. Free educational materials will also be available while supplies last.

Those interested in the naturalization process will receive information about eligibility and residency requirements, application forms, fees and processing times. Individuals with specific case inquiries are advised to bring all relevant documentation.

Bean supper is canceled

NEW GLOUCESTER — The Lunn-Hunnwell Amvets Post 6 has canceled the bean supper that was to have been held Saturday, Jan. 16, due to possible bad weather. The next bean supper will be held Saturday, Feb. 20.

Post cancels January supper

LIVERMORE FALLS — George Bunten Post 10, American Legion, has canceled the Saturday, Jan. 16, supper due to a coming snowstorm. The next supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the post.

VFW Post to meet on Monday

LEWISTON — The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at the Lewiston Armory.

All officers and members are encouraged to attend.

Turner hosting mobius knitting workshop

TURNER — The Turner Public Library is presenting two workshops on knitting mobius scarves, 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, in the Oakes Kilgore Room, 98 Matthews Way. The sessions will last about an hour.

Those with basic knitting knowledge, including knitting and purling, are welcome to attend.

A mobius is a strip fastened into a look with a half-twist. Those attending will play with two different methods for knitting the scarves.

Yarn, needles and a tapestry needle are needed for the first mobius method. Yarn and a circular needle around 48 inches long are needed for the second method. A couple of spare needles will be on hand for those who don’t bring one.

Mexico Trail Blazers are meeting

MEXICO — The Mexico Trail Blazers will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, downstairs at the Mexico Town Hall.

Fundraiser T-shirts will be available. The money raised from sale of the shirts will go into the trail system.

Those who would like to become a member may attend a meeting or call Nick Brown at 364-8665. All are invited.

Antique Bottle Authority to brief Hebron Society

HEBRON — Walt Bannon of Brighton will speak to the Hebron Historical Society on his years of bottle “digging” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, at the Hebron Town Office, 351 Paris Road. 

Bannon operates the Maine Antique Bottle and Glass Museum and also has authored a bottle hunting book of his exploits and the means for those interested in building their own collection of glass artifacts.

The public is invited.

College transition workshop offered

PARIS — Oxford Hills/Buckfield Adult Education, 1570 Main St., is offering a free workshop, “College Transition Orientation,” from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27.
