POLAND SPRING – Folk musician Gordon Bok will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 30, to kick off the OMNI Folk Music Series’ first season. The concert will be held at the new Cliffside Lodge at OMNI Camp, 135 Verrill Road.

Up-and-coming singer-songwriter Kevin Roper will open the show. Tickets are $17 in advance/$20 at the door and are available at omnilearning.org and at all Bull Moose Music Stores. For more information phone 998-5297.

Bok’s work was inspired by his coastal environment and experiences working in shipyards and on sailing vessels, where he served in every capacity from dishwasher to captain.

The Camden resident’s repertoire consists of a rich trove of ballads of Maine and the Maritimes, songs and dances of the Americas and abroad, and stories of boats and sailors.

The OMNI Music Series was established this year by Dr. Gar Roper, director of OMNI Camp and the OMNI Learning Institute.

Born of a lifelong passion for both folk music and education, the series will bring together folk veterans and some of the region’s best newcomers. Proceeds from the shows go toward the Learning Institute’s Maine Teachers First Initiative, which brings Maine teachers to working retreats where they learn and share new teaching techniques and activities.

Other upcoming shows this season include Kevin Roper and friends on July 23, David Mallet on Oct. 1, and Alastair Moock and Mark Erelli on Nov. 11. A season pass to all four shows is available for $50.
