King office to hold outreach hours

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The office of U.S. Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, has announced that his staff will hold constituent outreach hours at the UMaine Farmington Student Center, 111 South St., from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9.

It is an opportunity for residents to meet with a staff representative to discuss specific problems, legislative issues or concerns regarding federal government agencies. No appointment is necessary. FMI: 1-800-432-1599.

FARMINGTON — Rick Kersbergen, UMaine Extension professional, will give a talk on grasses and grains for livestock feed at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Farmington Municipal Building.

Food drive for animal shelter

PARIS — Local students Kendall Hill and Paul Cassano will conduct a food drive for Responsible Pet Care from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, in front of the school store in Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

This is their third and final time collecting for the shelter, and they have already raised hundreds of dollars in food and donations.

They will be accepting donations of cat and dog food — Purina is the preferred brand — along with paper towels, bleach, old pet toys, litter, wood pellets and any other forms of donation.

Blood drive scheduled at American Legion

RUMFORD — A blood drive will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the American Legion Hall. Those wanting to donate may register by visiting redcrossblood.org, downloading the Blood Donor App (3cu.be/blood) or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.

Chandler to speak on town survey

WOODSTOCK — Jane Chandler will be the speaker at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Whitman Memorial Library, Bryant Pond.

Chandler will discuss the “Age Friendly Community.” Bethel has conducted a survey to assess the needs of the town and surrounding towns. Chandler will talk about the results of that survey and discuss the needs of the town of Woodstock for young and old.

The free program is open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

Homemakers to make luncheon plans

CHESTERVILLE — North Chesterville Extension Homemakers will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, in the Chesterville Town Office.

They will plan the St. Patrick’s Day Free Senior Citizens luncheon, make cards and table favors and plan the bake sale for the Chesterville Town Voting Day. All meetings are free and the public is invited.

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Tim Flight, web application developer and Carrabassett Valley resident, will give a presentation on digital security at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Carrabassett Valley Public Library, 3209 Carrabassett Drive.

Flight will share tips to keep track of hundreds of passwords, selecting secure PINs for smartphones, do’s and don’ts for WiFi, safely paying for goods online and keeping malware off a computer.

A question-and-answer period will follow the presentation.
