RANGELEY — The first WinterPaloozah, a concoction of fun and sports (some of which are a bit unusual) is set for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, on Haley Pond in Rangeley.

Among the events and activities on the schedule are:  A curling “Bonspiel” led by Rangeley’s own curling impresario, Chris Devine, fa-tire bike demos with the experts from Northern Lights in Farmington from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.,  snow golf (clubs and tennis balls will be available on-site) , snowshoeing (snowshoes available at the lakeside Ecopelagicon Nature Store for a small fee), a snow-kiting demo with enthusiast Brian Dexter, a kite-wing demo with equally enthusiastic Martin Kimball, ice skating (bring your own, or you will find skates available for free use. A large selection can be found in the warming hut and Ecopelagicon Nature Store),  kick sledding, and cross country skiing on groomed classic and skating trails at the Rangeley Lakes Trails Center on Saddleback Road.

Other activities scheduled for the entire family are:  snowman contest from 1 to 2 p.m.,  hayrides from  5 to 7 p.m.  There will be a hot cocoa bar available all day, sponsored by the Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust.

The event winds down with a campfire and marshmellow roast as the sun sets over Rangeley Lake and the mountains to the west.

Further information can be found on the Rangeley WinterPaloozah Facebook page, or by calling Linda Dexter at Ecopelagicon Nature Store at 864-2771.
