1922 – 2016
LEWISTON — Roger Henry Chamberlain, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 23, at his home in Lewiston surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Turner on Nov. 19, 1922, the son of the late David E. and Mary (Albert) Chamberlain.
Roger lived in Lewiston for the past 70 years, and was a devout Catholic, being a parishioner at the Holy Family Church. On Jan. 21, 1946, Roger married the love of his life, Muriel L. (Lavoie), and they shared a marriage of 70 years. Roger was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served in active duty for over two years during World War II. Roger put his life on the line for his country, as a prisoner of war (POW) for more than five months. He was a decorated veteran receiving the Silver Star among many other medals and honors. After returning home, he was very involved in ham radio, being a member of the Yankee Radio Club. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Roger was self-employed as a woodsman. Roger spent time in the woods, gathering specific lumber to craft his own handmade violins made from lumber he cut on his sawmill. He was known to be a very good finish carpenter, making various bits of furniture for members of his family and friends. He also enjoyed reading.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel; his daughter, Deborah Audet and her partner, Mike Dubois, of Lisbon; his brothers, Armand and his wife, Dottie, of Westbrook, and Arthur “Bernard” and his wife, Irene, of Lewiston; his grandchildren, Jacob Audet and his partner, Jenna Lewis, of Hartford, and Heather Canty of Portland; his great-grandchildren, Pearson and Nolan Canty; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Edward, David, Lucien, Harold and Delano Chamberlain.
